Artist Bio

David is a legally blind artist living in East Lansing, Michigan. He was the head gardener for the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island for 15 years and was a landscape design consultant in Harbor Springs, Michigan for an additional 15. After becoming suddenly blind from glaucoma in May 2011, David received vocational training at the blind school in Kalamazoo, Michigan to resume his career. He has always had an interest in art, but his busy life and growing up on a family farm in northern Lower Michigan was his priority. His artistic endeavors had to be put on hold.

David began painting as a hobby after becoming blind and now has embraced his love of his surroundings as his new and vibrant career.

David has been painting flowers, gardens, and scenes from Mackinac Island in his folk art. His lifelong love of the beauty of the island means so much to him as well as his friends and family. He would like to share his joy with you.
