Ashley Yoshizaki has worked with Offender Success since 2008 when it was the Michigan Prisoner ReEntry Initiative. She began as an Americorps* Vista after graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s in Sociology before being named the Community Coordinator in 2014. Ashley manages Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw Counties under the current Michigan Department of Corrections contract. Within the role of Community Coordinator, Ashley has sought to create partnerships in local communities, educate service providers and community members around the barriers Returning Citizens experience when they are released from prison, and advocate for systemic change to improve the lives of people with backgrounds. Ashley believes that improving lives, one at a time, will positively impact local communities and with enough understanding employers will not look at this population as a last resort and finding housing will not be the barrier it is now for successful community reintegration.
